It was a family show and a show of hitting fireworks on Sunday, with the Hundred’s Craig Overton grabbing the focus off his twin Jamie and Jos Buttler showing the world how to hit it hard.
Trent Rockets have gotten a four-wicket victory over London Spirit to kick off their 2026 campaign in a lively fashion at Trent Bridge. The game was down to the wire, and the most surprising moment was when the Overton twins got the last word. Rockets required 10 runs to be scored from five balls, with Craig on strike and Jamie on ball for Spirit.
Craig didn’t budge. He top-edged Jamie for a vital six over fine leg and then laid on his nerves with back-to-back twos to secure the win with two balls to spare. It was not only a Trent Rockets triumph but also one of The Hundred’s most dramatic sibling battles as well.
Ben Duckett earlier found a way to keep Rockets alive with a classy 75 off 47 balls, and Craig also impressed on the ball by getting away with Jonny Bairstow and Lhuan-dré Pretorius. With Dewald Brevis (39) and Liam Livingstone (33) at the helm, London Spirit were 159-9 ahead, but that was not enough to halt Rockets’ late surge.
However, Jos Buttler did her job superbly as Manchester Super Giants blasted Birmingham Phoenix apart for 87 runs from 50 balls at Emirates Old Trafford. Buttler then went on to hit seven fours and five sixes to make for an explosive and powerful one-sided game of power and timing.
Tom Moores scored a quickfire unbeaten 39 from 17 balls as Super Giants reached 187-5. Phoenix was never on target in the chase, and it collapsed by Liam Dawson (3-15). Joshua Tongue also hit two balls, one of which was a golden duck for Rehan Ahmed.
The Hundred 2026 has already provided an evening of emotional, competitive, and serious title-chasing drama for the fans, with Buttler chilling out and Craig Overton taking a duel to the death from the rest of the family.
